President Reuven Rivlin yesterday evening (Sunday, 12 June) wrote to US President Obama to express his condolences following the attack in Orlando. Pres. Rivlin wrote, “Once again we feel the pain of terrible loss as we see the blood of young and innocent people spilled. There is no comfort for those who have had their loved ones torn away from them.
“This attack against the LGBT community in Orlando is as cowardly as it is abhorrent. The Israeli people stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our American brothers and sisters in the moral and just fight against all forms of violence and hatred. On behalf of all of Israel, I send my condolences to the families of the victims, and prayers for a speedy recovery of the injured.”

Instead of urging an immediate start to direct negotiations without preconditions, the international community submitted to Palestinian demands, allowing them to continue to evade conducting direct bilateral negotiations without preconditions.
(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson)
The international conference held in Paris today (Friday, 3 June) constituted a missed opportunity. Instead of urging Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to answer Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s repeated calls to immediately start direct negotiations without preconditions, the international community submitted to Abbas’ demands and allowed him to continue to evade conducting direct bilateral negotiations without preconditions.
History will record that the conference in Paris only hardened the Palestinian position and distanced the chances for peace.

Voices of Hope members honor their family’s legacy by keeping their stories alive for future generations. The Evening of Hope fundraiser raised money to suppor the mission of VOices of Hope, which is to foster a culture of courage against hate, bigotry, indifference and inhumanity. We cannot change the past, we can only hope these stories and life lessons will positively affect the future.
Thanks to the 140 attendees at this year’s Evening of Hope, we will have impact and we will not forget! Continue reading
Honorable Speaker of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein,
Distinuished guests, first and foremost my brothers and sisters, members of the bereaved families,
As the son of a bereaved family, I, like you, carry the weight of despair. I know the depths of sadness and the agonizing pain of loss. They are relentless. When I received the news of my brother and later had to break it to my parents, my whole world collapsed. The same thing happened to you. We spend the remainder of our lives struggling to emerge from the ruins. It never fully happens, but there is new life. Today I spoke with the mother of Ben Vanunu, a remarkable young boy who fell in Operation Protective Edge. Sarit and Ilan welcomed a daughter into the world today, and tears of sadness and joy mix together.
Twenty three thousand, four hundred and forty seven – this is the number of Israel’s fallen soldiers, in honor of whom we bow our heads today – in grief, silence, admiration and gratitude. The day bereavement first enters our doorstep is the day our loved ones become no longer just ours. While they fundamentally belong to us, a part of our flesh that has been cut off, they also belong to the nation, a nation that pays tribute to them today and acknowledges the enormity of their sacrifice. Jews, Druze, Christians, Muslims, Bedouins, Circassians, men and women – we all share one fate. Continue reading
